Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and some parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan today (Friday), after the announcement of sighting of Shawwal moon by Peshwar's Qasim Ali Khan Mosque .
Various congregations of Eid prayers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were held in the province after announcement of Shawwal moon sighting by a committee of Peshawar's Qasim Ali Khan Mosque led by Mufti Shahb-ud-Din Popalzai.
Religious elders participated in the meeting, saying that they received 20 persons, including two women, witnesses of sighting Shawwal moon.
The largest Eid congregation of Eid prayers in Peshawar was held at Charsadda Road. The Eid prayers were also held at Governor House in Peshawar attended by Governor Awais Ahmed Ghani, Chief Minister Amir Hyder Hoti, other ministers and dignitaries.
In Dera Ismail Khan a large congregation of Eid prayers was held at Police Lines attended by DIG DIK Imtiaz Shah, DCO DIK Khan Bakhsh Marwat and DCO Tank Amir Latif. However, local committee of religious elders rejected the provincial government's decision of Eid on Friday and they call the population to observe fast on Friday.
The people in Hazara division of KP observing fast today and will observe Eid with other parts of Pakistan on Saturday.
In northern parts of Balochistan people in Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah and Muslim Bagh celebrating Eid on Friday after announcement of moon sighting by the local committees. The most parts of Balochistan will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday.
